Hmm... in my simple scene I have only 5 objects + a particle system, and none of the meshes are set to draw shadows. Without a light engine, they look lile hell - uniform lightning; when I add a lightengine they look perfect, just like in 3DS Max - I get 100Fps. When I add the line (if I recall perfect) Global.FinalizeShadows the scene looks the SAME, but it's working with only 65Fps now. I think this FinalizeShadows needs to be optimized. My pc: Sempron2200+, 256DDR, GeForce2 32MB, WinXP SP1 and Delphi 2005 (project is for win32 strict).
NOTE: I'm very sure of the fact that my code is clean and optimized and Global.FinalizaShadows is placed corectly

Shadows are expensive, there is no way to make it faster. In 6.5 the shadows have been completely reworked, however, and are faster, but they still will kill your FPS.
